The Chev can attribute much of its success on the track to Vince Macri and Tony Land, of Macri Motors Race Preparation and Restorations at Austral, who prepared the vehicle throughout the season.

A bit of history

The 1967 Chevrolet Camaro was Chevrolet’s response to the Ford Mustang and became an instant icon in the muscle car world.

Launched on September 29, 1966, for the 1967 model year, the Camaro was designed to be a versatile, high-performance vehicle. It featured a sleek, aggressive design, with a long hood and short rear deck, giving it the classic “pony car” look that defined the era.

The Camaro was available in both coupe and convertible models and came with a range of engine options. These ranged from a 230 cubic-inch inline-six for those seeking fuel efficiency to powerful V8s, including a 327 and 396 cubic-inch engine, offering a lot of power for muscle car enthusiasts.

Buyers could also choose between several performance packages, like the SS (Super Sport), which boosted horsepower, and the Z/28, designed for racing and handling prowess.

With its sporty appearance, customizable features, and powerful engines, the 1967 Camaro quickly gained popularity, challenging the dominance of the Mustang and other rivals.

It set the stage for a long and successful line of Camaro models, cementing its legacy as one of the most beloved American muscle cars of all time.
